In the game show, all the contestants have to do is cross the lava pit. Well, I didn't want the kids to compete, so I made it a big goal for them all to work toward. Well, among those lava balloons were also yellow/gold, prize balloons, and coconuts. Inside these balloons and coconuts were pom poms that kids had to pick up to "level up."Top Level Scoreboard
Looking at the food idea board, you'll notice the different "tiers" for Gatorades, snacks, and possibly cupcakes. The kids would run through the class, collect pom poms, fill my scoreboard, then head to the upper level table. With masking tape and spray paint, I made little level windows where the kids could see their pom poms falling inside. Each time a window filled with orange pom poms, they had to go to the table and win the next treat. Score points to level up
When a child entered the lava pit, their job was to find a yellow balloon and pop it for the pom pom inside. So, going from the entrance to the exit, they would stretch and look for yellow balloons. Some children found yellow balloons with 1 large pompom, others found a balloon with 3 small pompoms. With this style of pointing and teamwork, the kids continued to run through the obstacle course over and over, encouraging each other to make big reaches for the balloons and coconuts. They had to climb, jump, bounce and use a lot of energy that they had been stuck with during the winter. I am Kandice
